GR20: The Most Extreme Trekking in Europe
The GR20 is a legendary trek that crosses Corsica from Calenzana (north, near Calvi) to Conca (south, near Porto-Vecchio), for a total of 180 km divided into 16 stages. It is known to be one of the toughest trails in Europe, with a total difference in altitude of 12,000 meters and rough terrain that test even the most experienced hikers.
Main features:
- Difficulty: High, with mountaineering features, aerial ridges and scrambling.
- Duration: About 15-16 days, depending on the pace.
- Unpredictable weather: Between intense daytime heat and possible sudden storms.
- Essential refuges: Along the route there are spartan shelters and bergeries for refreshment.
- Wild environment: Little paths, breathtaking views between sea and mountains.
- The GR20 North (from Calenzana to Vizzavona) is the most technical and challenging part, while the GR20 South (from Vizzavona to Conca) is slightly more accessible but still tiring.
A unique experience, which gives emotions and spectacular views, but that must be faced with good physical and mental preparation!
